Snow Play Parks- Tobogganing is changing

There are two snow play parks at Mt Buller and one at Mt Stirling, that are operational during the declared snow season. Snow play and tobogganing are extremely valued experiences for family and first timers to the snow in particular and are an important introduction to snow-based activity in a safe and fun environment.

Mt Buller’s snow play parks have been significantly upgraded in recent years. A permanent electricity supply for a portable snow factory has been added at each park to providing more snowmaking therefore extended operation of the park during marginal snow conditions.

Village snow play park has had its capacity increased, improve access from the Village Square and added a dedicated seating area.

Horse Hill snow play park’s lower section was characterised by a large depression which wasn’t much fun in slushy snow conditions or very practical during high visitation. This 600 square metre area was levelled creating a much more functional space for snow play fun.

In 2022, the RMB changed the model for tobogganing at Mt Buller by moving to “pay-to-slide” model, where complimentary toboggans are provided within the two toboggan parks, right where they can be used - just like in a water park. This model was adopted after a lengthy consultation period with stakeholders and careful consideration by the Resort Management Board.

“Rather than hiring toboggans for up to $20 each, there will be a fee of $15 per person, with free access for kids under 100cm when accompanied by a paying adult. This will provide unlimited access to both parks, subject to capacity limits of 125-150 people per park at any one time to avoid overcrowding and safety issues.” said Mr Bennetts.
