Mt Buller’s world-class mountain biking trails are getting a $1.1 million boost thanks to a grant from the Victorian Government.
The Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, announced Tuesday that Mt Buller would receive $833,000 under the Regional Tourism Investment Fund 2024.
The resort will use the money to build five new mountain biking trails, which will extend the 60km trail network riders currently enjoy.
Alpine Resorts Victoria is contributing $277,000 to the project.
The new trails will add 9.8km to the existing network, making it more accessible for beginners and families.
Mt Buller’s General Manager, Alan Arthur, said it was exciting news.
“We’ll finally be able to offer Corn Hill access to the Delatite River Trail, meaning riders will no longer have to traverse the Mt Buller Rd to Box Corner,” he said.
“We’re also doing the Woollybutt extension and will have beginner, intermediate and advanced trails from Abom to the Plough Shed.
“This completes our vision for a network of modern and exciting trails that appeal to both cross-country and gravity mountain bike disciplines.”
Mr Arthur said the trail extensions would create an interconnected network of rides and additional gravity trails that would take most riders two days to complete.
“This means our guests will not only be able to enjoy fantastic riding on our gravity trails but also a four-hour loop beginning and ending at Mt Buller.
“We’re confident the new trails will provide additional reasons for people to visit and stay on Mt Buller, boosting summer visitation. This will provide an economic benefit not only for our summer operators but for Mansfield and the surrounding region.”
Mt Buller hosted the GWM Mountain Bike National Championships in March this year, and Mr Arthur said the new trails would cement Mt Buller’s position as a world-class mountain bike location.
The first two trails should be completed by Christmas and the final three by April next year.
